Actually, they looked like somebody backed over their dog with a truck full of thumb tacks, but I think they were tyring to put a good face on it. When I asked them who was in charge, the cause of their bad feelin' became clear. Cuzzin Merle 'splained it to me: Uncle Dwayne. He went off to the Bonaroo Music Festival, done left his team without a captain. As the saying goes, you can take the boy out of Tennessee... Rusty began to elaborate on their plan to distract the Gardeners with the old "banana-in-the-pants" trick, but I didn't need to hear any more. I knew this was shaping up to be another core values cage match. The Shakedown said they were confident that their Lord Jesus would help them prevail. The Gardeners? They believe Jesus was a woman, and had ten kids. When they speak with their theater, The Gardeners tell us we have all strayed from the path. A lofty ideal to be true, but can you get a cold PBR? I don't think anyone really expected the boys from Mississip to actually win this day, but Shakedown v Gardeners was still arguably the most anticipated match of the day. Oddsmakers from Las Vegas Burger to White Electric have been talking about Mississippi Shakedown since early last week...as a possible contender for the Freedom Division Wildcard. Performing well against teams that are better than yours in every measurable way...that's part of the Playoff Picture. Once this game got going, things did come into focus. This was the part where Roy Clark, Buck Owen, and Minnie Pearl faced off against 250+ mph winds. Ask anyone from Greensfield, Kansas who wins that.
